If you only learn to defend one Biblical doctrine in your lifetime, take the time learning to defend the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Well over three hundred verses are concerned with the subject of Jesus' resurrection in the New Testament. With a little bit of research, you will discover that those who believe that the resurrection of Christ is an established and historical fact have mountains of evidence on their side. In fact, most of those who attempt to deny the resurrection are really just trying to avoid the deeper question of Christ's true identity.
Who is this Jesus that history claims was crucified, buried, and then resurrected from the dead? C.S. Lewis answers this question best when he wrote: "Christ was either a liar, a lunatic, or he was the Lord." Lewis adds: "You cannot say: I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' A man who was merely a man and said the sort of thing Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic-on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg-or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." (Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis)
Jesus Christ's claims are irrefutable. Christ claimed to be God. Christ said he had authority to forgive sins. Christ performed miracles and walked on water. Christ also accepted worship from human beings. So who is this Jesus? He is the Son of the Living God who died for the sins of humanity and was raised from the dead that we too might have life eternal. He is not dead. He is alive and He lives forevermore! Glory to God! "And because He lives, we too have hope of an eternal life free from the grip of sin. The Bible promises those who believe: "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you." (Romans 8:11)
Take comfort in the glorious good news of Christ's resurrection.
Prayer: “Father, thank you that through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, I can have the assurance of eternal life.”
